The package has arrived

I have always liked taking pictures. Mostly of my family of course, but more recently I have gotten interested in trying to take GOOD pictures of family, nature, objects, etc. Well, to take the pictures I really wanted to take, I needed a new camera. So I have been saving money since March of this year toward a new Digital SLR camera. Well folks, the day has finally arrived... 8 months later. My camera came in the mail today! A Nikon D40 with a 55-200mm lens! I am so excited! I've already read the first part of the manual and plan on reading the rest. I also plan on taking a class at the Community College near my house this Spring... hopefully with my friend Ann Marie.

So my waiting has paid off. Yay! Below are some pictures I snapped of the kids this evening. I couldn't get any outdoor shots (which I am most excited about) because it was already dark by the time my battery got charged. But they turned out so amazing for being inside that I can't wait to start shooting outside.

The first few pictures I took were of a beautiful subject. My long-haired baby girl Gabriella:

This next one I call "Hangry" - yes that is a made up word, so I will define it for you. It is when you are SO hungry, your blood sugar is really low, and nothing can go right with the world. This next picture would be right next to "Hangry" in the dictionary.

It got even MORE fun shooting these because my son, who rarely, RARELY will even smile for a picture, finally came around and actually wanted to be my model! Love it! Silliness ensued at dinner after he got some food in his belly to counteract his "Hanger":

And a lollipop for dessert

OH - and this also allows me to cross off #67 on my list of 101 goals in 1001 days!

#67 Get SLR digital camera - CHECK!

My new camera... an investment for the future. I can't wait!

Who's That? It's Gabby!

One of Gabriella's favorite things to do right now is to look at pictures on the computer. I came across some the other day and I asked her who was in the picture and she said "Gabby!" But actually... they are pictures of me when I was a little girl! I wanted to post them because everyone is always asking me who she looks like. And I guess, and Gabriella pointed out, she does look a little bit like her mommy!

Me... around 1982. I was about 2 years old.

Words

I noticed that there have been a lot of pictures on my blog of late... but not many words. And while a picture is worth a thousand words, I still want to make sure and document some of the things going on in our family that are not displayed in those pictures. Some things I want to be able to look back on and remember in years to come. Today I really wanted to focus on Gabriella.

Gabriella is now in a big girl bed. And although it's a big move it is not too surprising... because she really is getting to be a BIG girl. She talks in complete sentences, puts diapers on her babies, talks on the phone, plays with toys using her imagination (already!), and talks to everyone she meets. She is a big girl. And while it is a little sad to leave behind the baby days, the toddler days with her are so much fun to experience! I remember marveling at Oliver at this age when he would say or remember things and I would think "How in the world does he know that!" It is truly amazing all that kids can know and understand at such an early age. And Gabriella has not disappointed us with the surprising things she says each day.

She is also quite the copycat. Especially of the things her brother says. Her most recent copy is of Oliver's angry and adamant "NEVER EVER" when asked to do something that he could not possibly fathom doing at that moment. Gabriella has copied quite excellently the anger behind such a phrase as well as the glaring eyes, pouted lip, crossed arms and mean voice... but when it comes out of her cute little mouth with her little lisp, I cannot help but smile... "NEH-FAH, EH-FAH."

She is my little helper too. Oliver... really not interested in helping me with chores. But Gabby loves it! She pulls up a chair and helps me throw the laundry in the washer, put clothes away in drawers, likes to clean up toys (singing the "Clean up, clean up" song the whole time), and has even helped me dust. She wakes up smiling and talking and is so fun to get out of bed. She LOVES going to Sunday School at church and to "BBFF" or BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) with my mother-in-law.

We have been blessed with such a darling girl to have as our daughter!!!

And because I cannot resist posting pictures, here are a few of Gabby on her first night in her big girl bed.

Favorite Oliver quote of the week

Oliver: Last week we saw a possum in the back yard.

Daddy: Was it alive?

Oliver: Yeah, it was alive. It was alive like Jesus.
